Social Media and Content Manager

The Social Media and Content Manager will play a key role in delivering a distinctly Kansas City experience for our communities and audiences, by leading the KC2026 online presence and engage audiences across various digital and social media platforms. Responsibilities include developing and executing social media strategies to engage audiences, drive awareness and showcase our region to a global audience. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of social media trends, excellent written communication skills, and the ability to curate and create compelling content that aligns with our goals and brand strategy. Essential Functions and Competencies 

  • Develop and execute comprehensive social and digital media strategies to support KC2026 goals, identifying target audiences, key messages and content themes to drive engagement and deliver a distinctly Kansas City experience. 
  • Create, curate, and publish compelling content across multiple social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Snapchat and TikTok. Generate a mix of original content, user-generated and shared content, videos, photos, graphics and stories to showcase the region. 
  • Create content for the KC2026 website to integrate with social media. Make website updates with information provided by KC2026 team including news, job postings and business opportunities.  
  • Manage content calendars and ensure timely delivery of high-quality content that aligns with brand voice, values, and marketing objectives. 
  • Collaborate with digital media leads across partner organizations including (but not limited to) FIFA, the City of Kansas City, MO, other municipal entities, local/regional CVBs/DMOs, local sports teams and other FWC26 Host Cities 
  • Monitor social media channels for industry trends, market developments, and relevant conversations to identify opportunities for engagement. 
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with influencers, partners, and brand advocates to amplify our reach and enhance brand credibility. 
  • Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner, demonstrating a deep understanding of our goals and providing value-added interactions. 
  • Plan and execute social media campaigns and digital activations in support of key initiatives, milestones and events. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external teams to deliver these campaigns. 
  • Conduct regular analysis of social media performance metrics, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and generate insightful reports to inform future strategies and optimizations. 
  • Stay updated on emerging social media trends, tools, and best practices to continuously improve our social media presence and engagement strategies. 
  • Regularly monitor social media accounts for questions and comments. When appropriate, work with internal subject matter experts and communications team to engage. 
  • Monitor and adhere to relevant legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to social media and online content. 


Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field. 
  • Proven experience (5-7 years) in social media management, content creation, or digital marketing, preferably in a similar industry or environment. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and creativity. 
  • Demonstrates good judgement; willing to make decisions with a sound and accurate understanding of the situation. 
  • Proficiency in creating and editing content using Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects) and Canva 
  • Proficiency in using social media management tools, analytics platforms, and content creation software. Knowledge of platforms including Salesforce, WordPress, Flywheel and Monday.com preferred (but not required) 
  • Strong understanding of social media algorithms, trends, and best practices across various platforms. 
  • Ability to think strategically, solve problems, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, derive actionable insights, and make data-driven decisions to optimize social media performance. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with tight deadlines. 
  • Creative mindset with a passion for storytelling and creating engaging content that resonates with diverse audiences. 
  • Positive attitude, team player mentality, and willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams. 

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working with influencer marketing campaigns and partnerships. 
  • Familiarity with basic graphic design principles and photo/video editing tools. 
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and their application in content creation and optimization. 
  • Previous experience in crisis management and handling social media crises effectively. 
  • Certification or training in social media marketing or related disciplines. 
  • Experience in capturing and editing platform-specific photo and video content using both cell phone and DSLR camera 

This position will be devoted, full-time, to KC2026 activities.  However, the individual will be employed by the Kansas City Sports Commission.  This position generally operates in an office setting; however, there is some flexibility for remote work options.

KC2026 is the 501(c)(4) non-profit entity that has been incorporated to lead the strategy for the planning and activation of the FIFA World Cup 26™ in Kansas City. KC2026 is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of elected/appointed officials, representatives from the local professional sports teams and key community leaders. The purpose of the entity is to maximize the positive momentum created by FIFA World Cup 26™ to unite, strengthen and elevate our region while propelling Kansas City to new heights in the nation and the world.
